Georgios D. Melissanidis

Our Chairman


Mr Georgios Melissanidis was born in 1981, holds a Bachelors’ degree in maritime studies from the Southampton Solent University.  He started his professional activity at a young age, where he worked onboard company’s vessels gaining onboard experience as well.

He is the Chairman of Aegean Shipping Management since 2007.

Under his management, the age profile of Aegean Shipping fleet improved drastically by the years through the replacement of the older tonnage with younger vessels.

Driven by his mentality and desire for continuous improvement, in 2012, Aegean Shipping pioneered the paperless movement in Greece, embarking on a new ‘no paper era.

In 2014 Aegean Shipping became the second shipping company worldwide and the first Greek shipping company to be awarded with IS0 22301 Business Continuity certification by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). This was the fifth management system certification awarded to the company under Georgios Melissanidis’ management, following ISO 9001 for Quality Management System,  IS0 14001 for Environmental  Management System, ISO 45001 for Occupational Health & Safety Management System and ISO 50001 for Energy Management System.

Today Aegean Shipping operates and owns a fleet of 13 vessels, consisting of 7 oil and chemical tanker and 6 bulk carriers.

On a personal note… George spends his free time in his own “ManCave”. It is his personal car workshop where he designs and builds his own cars from scratch.
